Default Newbie with Eheim, need assistance

I have a 55 gallon tank, all freshwater, tetras and such.
The tank is 6months old and so is the Eheim Filter, model 2215.
This morning I awoke to it making noise, as if was obstructed?
No water is being sent back into the tank...not sure if any is being
drawn out.
Any assistance would be appreciated, I am baffled and a bit worried.

Thank you
Matt

Hi Matt - Sounds like it could be the impeller. Have you tried stripping it
down and cleaning it?

Yep, second that. If you're going to own a filter, you should get
good at tearing it down. Now's a good time! Something is either
blocking the water flow, or obstructing the rotation of the impeller.

6 months!!! LOL! I hope you're kidding. I've let my eheim canister go
3 months, but not often. As long as the water flow is still good, and
I have no exhausable media (carbon etc) I service it monthly. Helps
prevent occurances such as yours.

I recommend that you pick up a spare impeller. One of the times I tore
down my 2215 to correct a rattle, I found that a portion of the plastic
on the impeller had cracked apart (needing replacement). After measuring
the thickness and tolerances, I leaned on Eheim for what was potentially
a design weakness, and they eventually supplied me with a replacement at
no charge. I keep spare impellers for my Fluvals too in case anyone
suspects me of being impartial ;~).

I clean mine only when it needs it, about every 3 months or so.

Hmm, I have two Fluvals and one of them is about a year old. Where do
you get the spare parts and what other spare parts should I keep?

Thanks

BTW, I like your web site.

Apart from filter medium etc. I keep a spare impeller - I have 204,
304's and a 404. The parts for the 304 and 404 are interchangeable...and
I also have a spare 304 sitting in the garage (there is a history
behind this which is way too long to recount) - one day I'll find a tank
for it :-) but right now it is great for spares.

You can get parts for fluval msfs directly from hagen. E-mail them and they
will tell you how(I can tell you right now that you will not be able to
order over the web I think, because it is an infrequent occurrence, but you
should be able to order via telephone [voice]). The prices directly from
hagen will not be sale prices though (i.e. expensive), I am about to order a
new foam screen frame for my 404 and it will cost approximately $9.00 plus
shipping and handling - I know expensive for what you get but worth it to me
as I damaged one of mine. Before e-mailing check out their website. Good
luck and later!
