Any recommendations as to what would work best for removing quite a bit of
old coralline growth from an acrylic tank that has been sitting empty for two years? Would like to get tank back into service. TIA |

Hot water and white vinegar.
Fill it up and let it soak for 24 hours. Drain the tank, and use a metal scraper (new razor blade if you are careful) on glass, or a credit card on acrylic. Rinse the tank well, take your time, and it will clean up nicely. For really thick coraline algae depostis.
I just use HCl acid diluted about 50/50 with water and some gloves and a rag. Just be very aware the fumes are very nasty so make sure you are in a well vented area and be very carefull with the HCl acid it can burn the skin. There is no need to scrape with the HCl but it's still not a nice job, stinks real bad. Simon Marc Levenson wrote: Hot water and white vinegar. Fill it up and let it soak for 24 hours.
