Default Angel fish staying at the surface

I just got a new tank a few weeks ago and have put in mostly angel fish.
The fish were fine and a week or so later I put in three spotted catfish and
I put a colorful backing on the back of the tank.

Now, the angel fish won't leave the surface of the water unless I feed them.

Any suggestions?

Thanks. Steve

Couple questions...
How big is the tank?
Has it cycled properly?
What type of "spotted" cats are they?
Size in relation to the angels?
Noticed any aggressive behaviour by the catfish?
Do the catfish seem healthy while the angels do not?

If it's possible to move the catfish, even temporarily, try it. If that's
what is bothering the angels you'll know because they should mellow out
again after a little while. If they are still stressed, watch for illness,
check your water conditions, post back here again with more info, and more
specific help will be easier to give.

Thanks for the reply.

My tank is 125 gallons.

I have had my tank filtering for about four weeks now.

I have had the water tested and it is exactly where the pet store has
recomended.

I'm not sure what kind of catfish these are, other than spotted catfish,
they are aproximatly 3 inches long and my angels are also three inches long.
The catfish do seem very active.

One thing that I noticed last night, was that the temp was right at 80 to 81
degrees, so I turned it down four degrees, maybe that's it, I dont know.

Put the temp back to 80-82 for the angels.

I agree with Bob, the temp was OK in the first place. To identify the
catfish, try http://www.planetcatfish.com . How many of each fish are we
talking about here? 125 gallons is pretty big, perhaps more angels (or fewer
catfish), or some other fish, would spread out any potential aggression from
the cats.
