First question, How would the fish react to having a mirrored
background? I checked with the local hardware store and found out I can get a mirror cut to the exact size of the tank for around $60, I think that's a pretty good deal, just wondered how the fish would get along. I plan on keeping Bluegill and perch, maybe a couple of bullhead. Second question the glass lid I received with the tank had plastic hinges that held the two glass pieces together, where can I get more of these the hardware store has no idea and I can't seem to find any on the net. Any Suggestions? |

Any Suggestions? not sure about the mirror other than bluegills become quite aggressive at spawning time and may have a problem with their own reflection. I also found that I had more algae in a tank that I had in front of a mirror , light reflection I guess. You could always make you own hinges. I use nylon mosquito screening cut about 1 1/2" wide. Tape off each side of the opening and run a bead of silicone over the glass. Press the netting into the silicone so the silicone spreads over all the netting. You can apply another layer for extra strength. Remove the masking tape and trim off the excess netting with an exacto knife. Works great. Rick |
