Default Plenum?

Plenum: from what I read It sounds like its just a raised platform so that
there is water below the sand level.
Would a capped,un-connected undergravel filter be suitable to use as a
Plenum?
I havent set my tank up yet so I still have time to do this.
Is using a Plenum better than not using one? If so, why?

thanks for all

Yes you could use an undergravel plate with course sand
over that.

But I, and most people are not fond of plenums.

And as substrate goes, the finer the calcium sand, the
better, and skip the plenum.

The problem with this is that most sand is too fine and sifts through the slots
or holes in the UG filter plate.

Coffee is only a way of stealing time that should by rights belong to
your slightly older self.

Plenum is old news. That was the modern method 12+ years ago when I was still
running my 150 with an undergravel filter. Deep sand bed with live rock is the
way to go.
