![]() Does anybody know of a website that sells tanks? Both the LFS and ULFS have a 100-200% mark up on their products, so I'm assuming that carries over to tanks as well. --Kurt |

I have only ever run across one website that sold tanks online and
they had a disclaimer that they would ship a tank at customers request but due to packing and such it required a surcharge of such and such so it could be insured to meet shipping regulations and even then it was an iffy affair and that they preferred tanks to be local pickup only. Acrylic tanks are a nother matter. They generally ship those without much of a problem, as they are much more durable than glass. All glass cages makes all glass tanks, and they only deliver their tanks, and do not ship by way of 3rd party services..... I find that tanks are generally the cheapest part and more or less an enticement to customers to get into the hobby. You know sort of like bait em with the cheap stuff and sock it to them when they get totally hooked, and want to upgrade lights, pumps etc etc..... Kurt, where do you live?
It's usually cost prohibitive to buy a tank online. You might want to look here as well, maybe find a gently used one you can pick up at a discount: craigslist.org (click on your city) A lot of people get into the hobby, spend a ton of $$, then decide it's not for them and sell their equiptment at a huge loss, so maybe you can find someone who's had enough! A glass tank is a glass tank and unless it's cracked or has a leak (which you could pretty much tell via a water test) you should be OK buying a used one. 100 % markup BUT you don't pay shipping for a 100+ lb tank.

I got an 80-gal. glass tank with the fake wood edging for 20 bucks. No leaks, no scratches. I think it might have been a divorce sale. And I find 10-20 gal. tanks cheap all the time. Cindy |

If they had tanks at that kind of markup, they would not
sell. Tanks are usually marked up very low. Wayne Sallee Wayne's Pets KurtG wrote on 12/18/2006 8:11 AM: Does anybody know of a website that sells tanks? Both the LFS and ULFS have a 100-200% mark up on their products, so I'm assuming that carries over to tanks as well. --Kurt |

Freight would run about $400 on a 120g tank, and it seems to be about half price. $1300 vrs. $2500 (or higher). There's also a person that builds them from scratch in my area. They are easily half price the LFS. I imagine that competition will drive down prices, but LFS here has a near monopoly. --Kurt |
