A fellow gave me a starter of Daphnia + a couple of snails, which he keeps
in big tubs outdoors. Right now I have mine in a tupperware bowl in the house near a window, eventually I'll probably move them to a bucket. He suggested sprinkling some fish food into the container and that the Daphnia would live off the things that eat the decomposing food. I did. I also tossed in a couple of leaves because I read they will eat bacteria that break down the leaves. Each week I top off the water. They are making babies like crazy so I guess they are happy. I've thought of keeping some in the house, perhaps in a small tank with plants. Any suggestions on caring for these things? -- Mac Cool |

Hi..
[Daphnia] They love to catch (and filter) floating food like micro algae, bacteria, micro fauna and there are several different ways to keep and feed them.. I've thought of keeping some in the house, perhaps in a small tank with plants. Any suggestions on caring for these things? Well.., Daphnia and plants have different needs.. cu Marco |
