Naso Tang Messing the tank

My water is crystal clear in the morning, but by evening, the tang has
passed so much crap that the water is full of debris. It's amazing how
much that little guy eats & fouls the tank.

110 gallon, 600gph through sump. I have a protein skimmer and some
floss which I change every-other day.

I'm fishing for ideas on what else can I do?

Started at 3", but he's up to 5".

Fast little guy too. He has a hyper drive that he engages to cross the
tank and duck in his hole in about 100 millisecs.

Most people have a sump with some water flowing from
the sump up to the tank, and then back down to the
sump again. Then they put some powerheads in the
reef tank to increase water flow to where it should
be. Then you look in the tank, you see the same
particles of stuff, going around and around and around.

The way I like to do it is to have live rock rubble
filtration in the sump, and have one big pump doing
all of the water flow. Then the reef tank gets good
turn over.

I know exactly what you are talking about...
I have a large hepatus tang myself and know what tang's hyper-drive means :-)

maybe he would benefint from simply more circulation in the tank. if
your sump pump is rated at 600gph, and has to lift the water 3-4 feet,
then it may nto be 600gph anymore. depends on how the pump is rated.
Myself, i hear that if you have a refuge, like i do on the 60 gal over
here, then a slower flow is recommended, so then i need to supplement
with 1 or 2 700gph pwerheads for good tank circulation. So, possibly,
with 'more' flow, the stuff will hit teh bottom and stay there
faster. possibly its not really 600gph, but close to maybe 400gph,
and for such a big tank, maybe the flow is actually slow and the stuff
is hangin in the water column since it cant find its way to the floss
fast enough.

actually, rephrasing my last sentence, maybe it cant find its way to
the bottom fast enough. The floss may not find it any faster either
way, since the sump is still pumping at the same rate. Im thinking an
increased circulation will help it find the overflow siphon, and also
help pound it into the substrate as well, hope you have a good
maintenance crew behind this to take care of the grounded mess if this
works.
