I use Aragamax Select with my shelldweller tanks. It's a medium grain
sand, still fine enough for them to sift through their gills but doesn't
compact as much as sugar grained sand does.

What shellies do you have at the moment Cichlidiot?
I have found over the last few months I have become obsessed with Tanganyika
Cichlids, particularly the shell dwellers, I have a breeding pair of Brevis
and a trio of Multifasciatus in a 3 footer and they seem to get along
famously, very entertaining to say the least!

Right now I have an every growing group of N. similis who really need a
larger tank (which I've had on special order for over two months now and
it still hasn't come in). Just had to fish out another juvenial yesterday
and stick it in a breeder box because the adults decided to "vote it off
the island" so to speak. The tank I have on order is a 30 breeder, which
has a 36"x18" footprint. I think they'll be much happier in this than in
their current 29g, should I ever actually get the tank. Guess it's time to
make my weekly call to the LFS enquiring when exactly they're going to get
the special order from All-Glass.
