Algae problem worse after adding CO2

I added DIY CO2 a few days ago and my bluegreen algae has started growing
3-4 times as fast, but so are the other plants. It even has little bubbles
coming out of it. Is it pearling like the regular aquatic plants are
supposed to do?

I went to several of my LFS to purchase SAE. I was sold false SAE's by both
stores. Even Sandy's Pet Shop sold me 2 flying foxes telling me they were
SAE's. In this town, (Louisville, KY) Sandy's is the Pet Store's Pet Store.

Where can I get the "real thing" SIAMESE ALGAE EATER Crossocheilus
siamensis? And how much should they cost?

First, I doubt CO2 is actually to blame/credit for the increased
growth of the BGA. If the BGA outbreak is severe, I'd suggest
manually removing as much as possible, and blacking out the tank for a
few days. Search www.deja.com and you should find several recent
detailed posts on doing a blackout.

Next, SAEs will not help with a BGA problem. BGA is cyanobacteria, a
combination of bacteria and algea. Nothing will eat it.

Thanks for your help... I have locked the fish food up.... my grandmother
has Alzheimer's and kept feeding the fish .....she was killing them with her
kindness.

I found your article..... I had read this over 2 months ago, before I had
any BGA. I think I am too low on nitrates. I am going to test for this
.....add what is needed, clean out as much as I can, clean filter, and do
blackout for 3 days.

I'm willing to bet that this is the case. IME, BGA has only appeared after a
long time with undetectable NO3. When you start adding KNO3, it should
eventually disappear with pruning and on its own, even if you don't do a
black-out. Generally speaking, running a high-light CO2-injected tank is
dangerous without adding extra NO3, K, etc. So you get rid of the BGA, then
some other algae, like BBA, will start spreading sooner or later if you
don't supply sufficient plant nutrients. I recommend ordering all your
chemicals at the same time from www.litemanu.com to save on shipping, as
well as getting a complete trace element mix like Seachem Flourish or
Tropica MasterGrow (those are the only two I'd use), or PMDD.

I was able to find SeaChem Flourish Comprehensive Plant Supplement at my
LFS. I hope this is the right stuff. It is chock full of stuff. It's like
Ovaltean for plants.

I am going to order that Tropica MasterGrow. That stuff sounds like the
folks behind it did lots of homework.

If you already have Flourish, there's no reason to get TMG. They both serve
the same purpose. Keep in mind that these trace element supplements don't
have any macronutrients (beyond trace amounts). You'd need different
fertilizers for those.

Sounds like Blue Green Algae which is more a bacterial than algael. I tried
the black out several times and ended up using Erythromycin at double dose
for 3 days and it disappeared and hasn't returned after 4 months.
It grows like a film over everything and can double in size very quickly.
Blacking out seemed to almost work, but it always had enough steam to take
off again. The medication though cased it to wither and dry up, in no time
(just 3-4 days it was all gone).
