Default frogs, algae eaters, snails....

ok, to put this simply, i like frogs (water frogs of course) and was
curious if they work well in an aquarium. i've heard they just hide
all day... any comments...?

i recently set up a 32 gal tank and am sort of worried that it might
grow algae. my 10 gal tank didn't but it was on the other side of the
room. i keep my shades shut so little sunlight gets in the room...
but would an algae eater help from having to do gravel vacs as often
also, or no? also, do snails pretty much do the same job as algae
eaters (corys, plecs, ect.)? there is a certain type of pleco i saw
in my book (forgot the name of the fish) but it is black and white and
i was thinking about getting 1 like that, or are they more comfortable
schooling in groups of 3 or more?

thanks in advance,
Danya

||| Algae eaters... well... I know there are a few that actually DO eat
||| algae... but my common pl*co won't, and my 3yo albino bristlenose
||| does in spurts... and really, I'm not sure how much snails do...
||| they do a bit, but not a ton... they're always good to have around
||| for diversity, and snails are a good indicator to the health of a
||| tank.... snails and corys are different... Corys are bottom
||| feeders, not algae eaters....
||
|| thanks for the info. i wasn't really sure what they ate. anyway,
|| today i was at the LFS and i saw some...i think they were called
|| "julei cory"...anyhow i thought they were very pretty. anyone know
|| how big they get? they were pretty small.. so do corys like to
|| school to keep them happy, or would just 1 or 2 be okay?

Most, if not all corydora catfish, are a dwarf species, staying under 4"...
the julii http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog...dora/378_f.php
very nice fish....very social, as most corys are... yes, they LOVE to be
with others, depending on the size of the tank... if you can handle 3 of
them, go for it.... All corydoras love shrimp pellets, but a couple pellets
can feed 2 or 3 pretty easy... plus, being a bottom feeder, they can clean
up uneaten food from others... IF it reaches the bottom...

So THAT'S what I have at the bottom of my tank. I always liked the
personality of these things. They just go about their business and don't
get mixed up in any tank controversies or politics.

okay, well... i have a 32 gallon tank with 2 swortails, 3 guppies, and
6 tetras (3 goldskirt, 3 long finned serpae). i want to do so much
with my tank but it's probably not big enough. i'd like to get 2
african dwarf frogs, 3 of those julii corys, and then a couple bigger
"centerpeice" fish. would all of that be a little excessive?? not to
mention my livebearers are all males, should i add females?? i don't
want any fry though, that's why i got all males, but someone mentioned
in another thread that i should get females. i don't know what to do!
and mr. redforeman, i know you can help me. haha, you are going to
become my personal aquarium guy...that is, if you don't mind. and,
that is, if you are a guy...if not then you can be my personal
aquarium fish girl. haha although i'm pretty sure you're a guy..
okay, i'm blabbing now.

Tank politics! I like that phrase. I must have a georgebushfish. He's
always bossing the other fish around, but he's not very bright :-)

If it were me, I'd trade the 2 of the guppy males, and get 3 corys and maybe
1 angel.... but then again, I've not had angels before and they've been on
my mind lately...

lol. Thanks Peggy, but you're dissin' my man! I prefer to think of him
more like one of those sucker fish (hey, no jokes) that sucks up the scum in
the tank!

i'm not sure if any of the stores around here will trade fish or not.
not to mention, sonny jr., my oldest guppy barely has a tail left and
is constipated again! i GUESS i could trade in victor and darien
although i'm already a little attached. haha! maybe i'll go the the
LFS tomorrow and see what they can do for me...

OH, i was looking through this one book i have on fishies, and there's
this rainbow fish i thought would be a good "centerpeice" fish. it
even said so in the book. i was going to bring the book to work with
me today so i would remember and post the name of it in here but i
forgot...!

ok thanks for the suggestions mr. redforeman!
