Tank Temp

I am having a little trouble getting my 30 gal SW tank to get down to 78
degrees f. It seems to be running right about 84 Degrees f.
1. Is 84 degrees to warm?
2. Any suggestions on how to cool the tank, without a $600 cooler?

Just starting the tank, and it is cycling now. Into day 3.

Evaporation. Setup a fan blowing across the surface of the water. You can
usually bring it down 3 degrees this way.

Also air stones and activating the venturi on any powerheads you may
have.

I live near Phoenix and since the house is set to stay at electric bill
friendly 84F, I don't bother trying to get it cooler. All my critters
seem to be fine with it. It may not be worth worrying about especially
since you're just starting the tank up.

I think you can worry yourself into a hobby that's more costly than it
need be. Get fish that can handle the temp and enjoy.

This said, I typically have a few ice packs in the freezer in case we
loose power in the summer. Being on the west (warm) side of the house,
I've has a time or two when I've dropped one in to keep it reasonable in
an outage. An electric chiller would be useless when I'd really need it.
