There is medication for "Hole in the head", PetsMart sells it. One of my
tetra head this nasty illness, by the time it was cured , lower mouth and some of the upper, including one of it's eye was gone. Surprisingly after, still lived to a long time, was able to eat floating food. Some times I made sure he gets the food. Julius "Mark Stone" wrote in message om... (Frankrkay) wrote in message ... Hole-in-the-head (pin sized holes near nostrils, gill plates, and eyes, that gradually increse in size untill large portions of the cranial is destroyed) is most likely due to Hexamita - symptoms include thin white threads trailing from pin sized holes and depigmention along lateral line. Both are due to a vitamin "D", and/or mineral deficiency. Red earth worms = vitamin "D". would it help an oscar with hole in the head also? Sure - and easyer to feed to an Oscar - you won't have to cut it up! what is your opinion about the medication from Jungle for Hole In The Head disease? i believe its called Hole In The Head Guard First thing needed is better nutrition - I have never used Jungle's medication to treat this disease. However, I have used Tetra's food called Metronidazol along with Tetra's Medicated Food for Parasites, for treatment, which *will* cure the disease if treated early.(an antibiotic food should be feed for at least 10 days) ......... Frank Hi Frank -- I'm wondering if you have documentation for your statements regarding Vitamin D and Hexamita? I've never heard Vitamin D mentioned as a cause of HITH, and generally aquarists have moved away from the Hexamita protozoan as a cause. Most believe it invades the lesions after the onset of the disease. Paul PS. is there anything i can/need to do for the pleco? |
