My quarrantine tank filter broke, so as an emergency I'm using one of those
clear plastic ones you fill with wool and carbon. I dont know how to set it up! I've surfed around but nobody explains it. neither does the packaging for my filter grrrrrrr. Does the carbon go in first? or the "wool"? the airpipe seems to blow only air out of the outlet pipe, it doesnt look like any actual water is being filtered thru. can anyone help? I know theyre not the best filters but all I have til the end of the week. Tess |

Hi Tess.
If you are talking about the old plastic box corner filters, place the carbon in first followed by the filter wool. They work by air passing down the inlet tube then out through the outlet, this causes the water to be drawn through the grid on the top of the filter and down through the filter media and out (again) through the outlet. They are not terribly efficient filters, but back when I was a lad, they were all we had and they did a reasonable job. "Raccoon" wrote in message ... I couldnt believe no instructions on box. It is only an "emergency" filter, I wont be using it for too long. Tess "cabaloz" wrote in message ... Hi Tess. use the wool, toss the carbon which is basically useless. yes, air pumps drive air
out of the outlet pipe and when they do this they create a mild vacuum for water to come into the holes in the side of the filter. right? I thought carbon was good for keeping down ammonia or nitrate or something?
