Anybody purchased this powerhead recently ?
I got mine about 2 years ago and about 1 year ago it went down : the impeller covered with blue, plastic shell caught a leak and rusted from inside. The rust bulged out the plastic shell and the impeller stopped moving at all... About a month ago I found this pump tossed away into the "junk-drawer" and found a use for it, I got new impeller, put it in and after 4 weeks of working I noticed it stopped again... Inspected from inside and THE SAME THING: again it was bulged out and the bottom of the impeller was rusted... I have other powerhead from the same manufacturer but the smaller model (550). This one has ceramic (?) impeller magnet without the plastic shell... I am using this one over 2 years with no problems. I would not recommend 1140 pump for any marine tank. First: it is not reliable and quickly stop working. Second: it leaks iron ions to the water in an uncontrolled way poisoning the water. This pump is gone! I wonder if this plastic shell over the impeller is still used in new design... Anybody purchased it recently ? |
