Ok people tonight I saw something I never expected to see. This also
involves a question too. I saw my O' Rex guard a cuccumber from the pl*co. Not only that he was eating it. Now from the the knowledge from everyone here and elsewhere I was under the impression they were not herbavors. Is my oscar confused? Insane? or just getting smart and playing a game with my pl*co? I would really like to hear some insight on this. It could be rare this is why I wanted to post about it. I could mistake the eating it as attacking it due to it being new in the tank. Either way I find it amusing and intersting. Also the little ******* bit me today, jumped damn near 2 inches out of the tank during feeding time to snatch it out of my hand. GOD I LOVE OSCARS! Let me know your thoughts. Jeff -- Posted via CichlidFish.com http://www.cichlidfish.com/portal/forums |

Does it hurt when they bite? The other day when I lifted the glass to feed
mine, him and the green terror together jumped up at the exact same time and splashed a huge splash of water all over me? I really think they spent the whole day planning and plotting to do it. I am afraid he will bite me one day, I don't know if they have teeth or not. Thanks. Sarah "SoonerJeff" -DONTEMAIL wrote in message ... Ok people tonight I saw something I never expected to see. Most herbivorous or carnivorous fish are not strict 100% observant, and
will take a walk on the wild side as the opportunity and the motivation presents itself. It's probably not predictable, and in the case of O'rex, it's just as likely that he was just amusing himself at the plec's expense. Oscar's teeth are further back in their mouths, so I imagine that if your finger goes back far enough, you will notice a difference in pain ;~). Having been bit by Oscars more than once, the greatest injury is usually to your dignity. However I would not expose a child's fingers to the chance. Oscars can apply considerable force, both in closing their jaws and twisting, if they think they have a chance at keeping what they caught. -- www.NetMax.tk "Sarah Navarro" wrote in message ink.net... Oscar have a row of 3 huge sets of teeth in the back so if your finger
gets far enough back it could do some damage. If you've seen what an oscar can do to feeder fish you know what I mean. Even though its a carnivorous fish they probably will try to eat anything that is smaller than them in the tank. So if you threw a piece of cuccumber in there the o will bite it, it will probably eventually stop doing that once figures out what the cuccumber is. -- Posted via CichlidFish.com http://www.cichlidfish.com/portal/forums |
