pH Levels

I was told the optimum pH level is 8.2 ppm. I was also told that if they go
higher, it's not really a problem, that the fish like it. I'm hovering
around 9.0 ppm. Is this too high?

9.0 is too high

8.2~8.4 is more normal whats your alk? either way its time for a waterchange and to find
out what is getting it so high.

It is way too much - do you overdose kalkwasser?

I was using a RODI. pH came out a little low, I added pH+ and now its too
high... I'm in the middle of a partial water change to reduce the pH.
Unfortunately, RODI takes a while to come out...

It is way too much - do you overdose kalkwasser?

pH+ is supposed to set you at 8.3 magically. Are you positive you are reading
the test kit correctly?

Can you tell us more about your setup, including if you are use kalkwasser, type
of salt, etc...

I have a 75 Gal (RODI) with 50 lbs of LR 4 " of sand and live sand. 2
Power heads and a PRIZM skimmer. INSTANT OCEAN salt. I don't believe I've
added anything else to the tank. except pH increase. I don't know what
kalkwasser is, as you probably figured out, I'm knew to this hobby.

reading is the best thing I can recommend in this hobby and with you being
here, your off to a good start. you might want to check out reefcentral.com
if you haven't already.

to get your ph lower you can add regular white vinegar a little at the time
(5ml at the time in your 75) and recheck PH, this will bring it down safely
and not harm your fish/inverts.

It would generally be very difficult to get your pH up as high as 9. A
change in pH moving away from 7 increases exponentially. The difference
between 8 and 9 is not like the difference between 7 and 8. So I would
really suspect that you have an inacurate, old, or hard to read test kit.
Bring a water sample in to your local fish store and have them test it.
