![]() My pond is three years old. I only have goldfish in the pond. Some are six inches long and some are smaller. I checked the water temperature today and it is at 48 degrees F. The fish are very active in that they swim around the pond as fast as they are able. They seem to be all over the pond continually. In previous years, when the water temperature reached this low, they stayed at the bottom and I never saw them. I live in zone 8-9, so I very seldom get ice on the water. I use a Skippy filter which keeps the water crystal clear at all time. Because my fish are so active, should I keep the filter running or should I shut it off. In previous years, I would shut it off about now and have never had a problem. I stopped feeding them about a week ago. -- ken |

At 48F my fish are usually on the bottom already. I'm in zone 6 and the water in my ponds and pools isn't that cold. I wouldn't shut the pumps and filter off if my fish were that active. -- Reel McKoi.... frugal ponding since 1995... I'm in Zone 7a, I take my 1500 gph pump out of the pump chamber in fall and continue slow flow & filtration (bacteria has gone dormant by 40F of course, but to keep it alive I do believe flow is necessary) so I run a 350 gph pump thru winter. ~ jan See my ponds thru the seasons and/or my filter design: http://users.owt.com/jjspond/ ~Keep 'em Defrosted~ Tri-Cities, WA Zone 7a To e-mail see website |

Someone who loses it is a LOSER. BF, are you not reading my postings? If not , why not,?? Do you disagree or find fault iin what I propose? "Roy" is simply laying bait, you sucked on it bigtime..let it go..! "Roy" hit my KF before he even posted ..anything. That must tell you something? And. Resist compounding matters by reading as a "speehlun troll", get used to peoples small errors (your view) or their 'correctness' (their view). FYI "loose" in 'meri-kun speak does mean "lose", there are many other like misuses of English (your view). You get that on these big projects :-/ cheers] zIR -- response |
