OK then, if I read this right, I should leave my pump running through the
winter but I shouldn't put gravel on the bottom of my pond, right?

============================
If it freezes where you live you should probably shut the pump off. Allow
the warmer water to settle to the bottom and the fish to rest. Skip the
gravel. It's too hard to clean.
