I have a nice Anubias coffeefolia in my small tank that was very
beautiful and very happy. In the past month or so, I've noticed the leaves have begun turning yellow. Could this be an iron defficiency? The substrate is laterite, but the anubias sits on a log and I'm not sure the roots reach the substrate. Do tanks with laterite bottoms require iron additions to the water column? Or does the substrate saturate iron in the water? -- Victor M. Martinez Owned and operated by the Fantastic Seven (TM) Send your spam he Email me he |

Sorry, I meant to say fluorite, not laterite. ![]() -- Victor M. Martinez Owned and operated by the Fantastic Seven (TM) Send your spam he Email me he |

Do tanks with laterite bottoms require iron additions to the water

I remember dsomebody saying their Anubias really took off when he planted] it in flourite; it could have been he had a better fertilization regime at the time too. I've never noticed any difference whered rooted in iron or left bare root. Add iron. (and traces... are you adding traces with no iron. How?) -- Need Mercedes parts ? - http://parts.mbz.org Richard Sexton | Mercedes stuff: http://mbz.org 1970 280SE, 72 280SE | Home page: http://rs79.vrx.net 633CSi 250SE/C 300SD | http://aquaria.net http://killi.net |

Which is not often. ;-) My tanks are mostly self-fertilizing, I guess. -- Victor M. Martinez Owned and operated by the Fantastic Seven (TM) Send your spam he Email me he |

In the sense that as old leaves die their tissue degrades back into their component chemicals which are readsorbed by the plants, yes. But fish waste is not a complete fertilizer. They really do need fertilizing. -- Need Mercedes parts ? - http://parts.mbz.org Richard Sexton | Mercedes stuff: http://mbz.org 1970 280SE, 72 280SE | Home page: http://rs79.vrx.net 633CSi 250SE/C 300SD | http://aquaria.net http://killi.net |
