Default Essential Reading?

I'm getting ready to take a trip to the library and was wondering if anyone
could suggest some good books to look for in regards to reef tank
aquria/creation/maintenance and the like.
Thank you all much,
Joshy

I looked into this as well when I started out last year, and I found
that most fishkeeping books are rather out of date, at least ones
that you would find in a library. Marine fishkeeping in particular
has made some major advances in the last couple years. One of the
books said that UG filters were the only way to ensure success in a
marine tank. g

If you can find a copy of "The Conscientious Marine Aquarist", that's
one to take home. "The Coral Reef Aquarium" by Ron Shimek is a great
starting point. "The New Marine Aquarium" is a little dated on the
technology, but has good info about appropriate fish for various tanks
and how to choose good tank-mates.

Well, that's a few to get you started, anyway

I also strongly recommend reading the forums at reefs.org and
reefcentral.org. Both are great sources of information, different from
and similar to USENET (where you are now).

Regards,
Ross

Your average public library doesn't have any reefkeeping books newer than
5-6 years old, making them worthless.

Thank you all for the responses, to my luck I was able to find a copy of The
Conscientious Marine Aquarist at the library, but for the most part the
Marine Aquarist section was pretty dry. Guess it's time to start investing
in book as well as tank equipment LOL.

Do not forget your local book / magazine store like Border or similar
outlet. You can read what they have and get same java at the same time. All
magazines and books are update or current. Library only if you want to
borrow or get archive article.

Maybe not in your Country they dont, but here in Australia where I am they
have a few newish books.
I was only just reading a book I borrowed this week about Corals,
Invertibrates and another on Marine chemistry..... (I dont recall their
names off hand)
They are based around the years 2002-2003 but overall it is true that public
Libraries dont have much to offer when compared the the information you can
gather from the Internet.
