Hi
I have a 25G(30x12x16) with FluvalPlus3 filter, 1x20W light ... it's presently set up as freshwater I also have a brand new 75G(48x18x20) with Fluval404 filter and 3x40W light .... it's empty now. Can I setup something...sal****er in the small tank? I would like 2-3 no more fish and maybe a coral or something. If yes, what exactly are my options, what can I put in? Also what extra hardware I need? I would like to make the big tank a freshwater community tank. But... I may change my mind... If there is no way for the small tank to become a sal****er tank, then for the 75G... what else do I need to get it going? and maybe a few helpful links? TIA |

IMO the internal Fluval filters are absolute garbage for anything but water movement. Might be good for a Berlin system in a nanoreef. Looks like you're just beginning to plunge into salt, yes? I highly recommend Reef Secrets (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/AS...817248-1210556) to see just what you want to do. A mini reef isn't that difficult if you can take the time to educate yourself as to what's going on. You may wince at the price ($27) for a beginner's book, but it's very comprehensive and is more than enough to get you on the road to running a small reef. Barron's Publishing also puts out a decent book called, I believe, "The Simple Guide to Sal****er Aquariums". It's not bad, but very stingy on detail. A great primer for the sal****er novice though. Oh, as for additional equipment... You basically need salt and a hydrometer. Any additional equipment is pretty optional in a nanoreef when you're doing frequent water changes. (Last bit of advice: don't try to cut corners on the cost. You'll either pay up front, or you'll pay later replacing the cheap stuff and the animals that died because of it. But you may already have learned that from FW.) |
