Default raising pH and gH

Can I add some crushed coral to my canister filter to help buffer the pH and
raise gH or is it kH? CC won't affect carbonate hardness will it? or does
it just affect general hardness... I always confuse the 2...

I was thinking of adding it while the tank is being setup to help buffer and
raise the gkpH all at the same time... hopefully....

Does it virtually dissolve over time, or will it take years???
