I really don't have that kind of floor space,... In fact, I don't have a
whole lot of any kind of space,...My place has been, over the nine and a half years, decorated in what you could call, "early American cast-offs",...added to enough stuff to fill a one bedroom apartment, which is what I used to have, now all wedged into a 'studio' apartment.~Dean. |

Nik ========= Yes, I have heard this from a friend near Tampa. He can't afford to buy even a small house there in any section around the city. He now regrets not buying a home when he first move there 25 years ago. Sometimes Mobile Homes can be found in excellent condition and for a fraction of what a house costs. I would rather live in a MH than rent an apartment as rent is GONE and you have nothing - but the MH can always be sold. You also have a lot more room and can do as you please with it, inside and out. You can stay in a trailer-court (not all are dumps full of trashy people) or put it on a piece of land which will grow in value as time passes. That's what my old friend is looking into now. -- Koi-Lo.... frugal ponding since 1995... Aquariums since 1952 My Pond & Aquarium Pages: http://tinyurl.com/9do58 ~~~ }((((o ~~~ }{{{{o ~~~ }(((((o |

I know an elderly woman in Fla and she said they, on the gulf side, don't get the severe storms the east side of Fla gets. Nik I tell my husband all the time me and luke want a pond, but the more i think about it, it would be so much eaiser living down there, up here i could only have it in the summer, my neighbor has one with about six goldfish, she leaves them out all winter, my son tells me all the time mom brake the ice and steel the fish, he feels bad for them, but i guess they are fine they always are swimming come summer. You know those big square containers you can get at walmart for 20$ they hold about 40 gl maybe more if you get the bigger ones, could you use that as an outdoor pond in the summer, what kind of filter would you need to use? That's a good reason to move then. Health is so important. I lost a good friend here as she had to move to AZ because of health issues. The humidity here about killed her every summer. "If you don't have health, you don't have anything," my mother used to say (we got no junkfood and nothing fried. We were not allowed to wallow in front of a TV for hours at a time.). GF are amazingly cold tolerant when healthy. I feed them extra in the fall to fatten them up for the winter. They sail right through. Tell Luke not to worry about them. :-) I have a cousin who lived near Hershey Pa and they hated the long cold Pa winters. They now live down in GA and love it. You know those big square containers you can get at walmart for 20$ they hold about 40 gl maybe more if you get the bigger ones, could you use that as an outdoor pond in the summer, what kind of filter would you need to use? Nikki Better would be those $10 to $12 dollar 150g kiddy pools with a black liner ($3) from Wal*Mart. They're cheap, easy to handle, safe around children, low, and have a large water surface area. You can even put pond plants in them including mini water lilies. I use small Beckett (from Home Depot) pumps set in a bucket of gravel and window screen to filter them but even cheap $10 powerheads work. -- Koi-Lo.... frugal ponding since 1995... I can't, for I am on both Social Security Disablity and housing
assistance,...what is called, "Section Eight Housing". It takes a very long time just to get on the list, and even longer to actually get a place to live,... And if I tried to move, I would most likely end up on the streets. So I stay in an apartment building where the building's owner doesn't even board up the windows when a hurricane comes, because he says that he's insured, he doesn't need to. C'est la vie, mon ami,...Such is life, my friend!~Dean. |

And what ever you payed then, would be extremely cheap now,...Ever since
Hurricane Andrew destroyed whole areas, pretty much, including Homestead Air Force Base, the insurance has gone sky high,...And yet there are still many, many homes and businesses here that have the government-issued blue tarps covering the roofs, still waiting for the government and or insurance money to pay for the much needed repairs from the damages from the last hurricane. And hurricane season will shortly be here again, and they say it's gonna be a bad one. |
