Advanced Aquarist: May Issue is Now Online!
Fellow Marine Aquarists, For those that don't check the website religiously on the 15th we are pleased to announce the release of the May 2006 issue of Advanced Aquarist's Online Magazine. Remember to check back here each month on the 15th for our newest issue. http://www.advancedaquarist.com/ http://www.advancedaquarist.com/2006/5 Here's the lineup for this month: Editorial: May 2006 By Terry Siegel Terry discusses IMAC and reader email. Feature Article: Glitter Lines: More Than Aesthetic? By Dana Riddle This article will present some initial data from recent experiments relating to the physiological effects of glitter lines within aquaria, and also how our artificial glitter compares to that found in natural reefs. Feature Article: The "Old Tank" Syndrome By Mike Paletta Now that a tank no longer needs to be broken down and tanks are being maintained for long periods of time a new "syndrome" is starting to show itself. For lack of a better term the situation is being called the "Old Tank Syndrome." This syndrome is not as dramatic as the new tank syndrome where all of the fish died, but it can be just as unsettling to the tank's owner. Featured Aquarium: The Nano Reef of 'smontanus' By 'smontanus' This month we begin a four-part Featured Aquarium series from our Nano Reef Buildoff that took place on Reefs.org. This month, 'smontanus' shares his nano tank with us. * We are looking for new Feature Aquariums to publish in Advanced Aquarist. If you submit your tank and it's published in Advanced Aquarist, you will receive a $50 gift certificate to your choice of our sponsors (applies to US residents only). If interested in submitting your tank for possible publication, please email for details. Lateral Lines: Reef Aquarium Filtration Part IV: Consumption By Adam Blundell, M.S. The act of feeding an aquarium produces a greater need for filtration. However the reason for feeding is often times to satisfy the needs of particular animals. These animals are themselves serving in a way to help filter the aquarium as they consume the provided foods. What in Neptune's World? By Terry Siegel Guess the mystery coral. Hot Tips: Clam Selection Tips By Advanced Aquarist's Readers This month, our readers give advice on selecting that special clam at the LFS. Product Review: Spectral Analysis of 400W Metal Halide Lamps: Giesemann, Krystal Star, South Pacific Sunlight, BLV, Catalina By Sanjay Joshi, Ph.D. Sanjay tests more 400 watt metal halide bulbs. Reefs In The News Media coverage of the state of our world's reefs, interesting information, and other marine-related news. RSS feed available. As always, please let us know if there is a specific article or area that you would like to see covered by Advanced Aquarist's large staff of aquarium hobby experts.
