Hi.
I've stocked my 75 gallon aquarium with various varieties of pygmy fish -- threadfin rainbows, honey gouramis, pygmy corys, dicrossus maculatus dwarf cichlids, and a few others. I could probably add a good number more to my fish load, but I'm not in any hurry to do so. However, I went to the LFS the other day, and he pointed out that he has a pair of pygmy ember tetras that he thought would mix well with my community. Well... any advice? How would ember tetras do with my other fish? Will they be ok in my medium hard, pH 7.2 water? Lastly, are they ok as just a pair? Most of the other species I have in larger groups (10 rainbows, 9 gouramis, 9 corys (left out of 12), 4 d. maculatus...) If anyone has any advice, I'd appreciate it. Thanks! --chris NB: This email address is dead. If you would like to email me directly, please use: cpalmaATSYMBOLastro.psu.edu |

Sorry for the bad form of replying to my own post, but I'm heading to the
LFS today, and I'm guessing he's going to ask me again about if I'm interested in the Ember tetras. Anyone have any info on this species? I'm leaning towards buying them (I've liked all of the other fish that he has recommended to me), but I'm a bit wary of adding just a pair of tetras to what has so far been a pretty peaceful community. --chris On Thu, 8 Apr 2004, Chris Palma wrote: Hi. There might not be many people with experience keeping Ember tetras.
http://www.fishbase.org/Summary/Spec... sname=amandae (Hyphessobrycon amandae) lists them as coming from Rio Araguaia basin, Brazil. I'd keep them in a large group. The smaller the tetra, the more they seem to prefer travelling in groups. This area of Brazil is probably soft acidic water. Your 7.2pH medium-hard is probably acceptable, especially if your LFS is on the same water. hth NetMax "Chris Palma" wrote in message ... ![]() Hi NetMax. Thanks for the response. I didn't realize that they were so rare! Apparently my LFS must have a somewhat unique supplier, because he sold me another type of rare fish -- dicrossus maculatus cichlids, which I have had a heck of a time finding any information about whatsoever. Basically, what I can find says that they are hard to find. I guess assuming that just because my LFS has a fish that it is common is a bad assumption. ![]() Anyway, I thought about this for a while, and really I would like to have a group of these fish. The thing is, though, he just has them in the store in a tank with white clouds. I figured that they would be just as happy in my aquarium with my community as they are if they are in a store aquarium with white clouds. So, I bought them. I'm going to keep my eye out and the second he gets more I will add to their community. --chris On Fri, 9 Apr 2004, NetMax wrote: There might not be many people with experience keeping Ember tetras. http://www.fishbase.org/Summary/Spec... sname=amandae (Hyphessobrycon amandae) lists them as coming from Rio Araguaia basin, Brazil.
