Default I Want To See Bubbles

Should I get a bubble wand? It's a 5 gal tank. I want those "curtains"
of bubbles. Will they also make more oxygen? I have an undergravel
filter.

Bubble wands per se do not put oxygen in the water. They create water
mpovement at the surface which allows oxygen to dissolve and be
induced into the water. Fish can not utilize the bubbles given off by
air stones etc. They have to extract their air form the water by way
of gills and by creating water movement especially at the surface it
allows more surface area to be exposed to become saturated with O2.

Air stones and bubbles wands are for the most part not necessary if
you have proper filtration and are not overloaded.unless you like to
see those ^&*(&^*%V bubbles which I do not.

absolutely. the finer the bubbles the more surface area for oxygen exchange while
the bubble is in the water. the bubble also takes in waste gases and when they break
put them up into the air. further, when fine bubbles hit the surface and break into
the air some of the water is airborne taking on more oxygen and falls back into the
water. also, the finer the bubbles the less disturbing to fish and the better the
movement of water from bottom to top... a very good thing. it is an old fashioned
idea/myth that oxygen exchange only occurs at the top. lots of the older GF books
say things like this.

NOW ABOUT THAT 5 GALLON TANK. it isnt big enough for even 1 goldfish so do get
guppies or white clouds. Ingrid
