Since I have deep sand bed in my 58g reef tank I suffer
brownish-red cyanobacteria blooms... Attempts to put green macroalgae in the sump failed. Algae gets lighter and lighter, loosing its green color and disapears... All the time I measure undetectable nitrates. Chemical methods to absorb abundant phosphates do not work very well (use PhosAr). What would happened if I add some ammonium nitrate or sodium/calcium nitrate to the tank water to rise nitrates to - let's say - 1-2mg/l and put some green macroalgae in the lighted sump again? Will they work as good phosphate absorbents and provide nice food addition for my tang to eat? Will they outcompete cyano or will I get awfull GHA on my live rocks? :-) |

Will it work as good at preventing my getting preggie and provide nice food addition for my butt packing buddies to eat? Will they out compete cancer or will I get awfull rash on my nuts? :-) |
