Hey Phil, if you had a clearer picture it could be an easy ID.. It almost
looks like a male Kenyi changing his colouration... How old is the fish?

Seems to be a lombardoi (pseudotropheus?) (also called kenyi cichlids I
believe). I'm having my first go with these fish and have been reading a
lot about them lately. Dominant males are golden while females are blue
with black bands. Supposedly, subdominant males look sort of like this (in
between?). Not 100% positive on this as the group i picked up are only
about 1 1/2" at this point.

Try doing a Google image search for 'lombardoi' for pictures.

Actually my dominant Kenyi is very yellow, at a fast glance he might even be
mistaken for a female Yellow Lab. The sub Kenyi male is all yellow with his
black strips, the larger female I have has very faint strips, while the
younger ladies have very prominant strips.. If I had a nice Camera I would
post a few pictures of them all...
