I am looking after someones african cichlids, one of them an electric yellow
and it's mate seemed to have had babys, the fish with the least colour is carrying them around in it's mouth. How long will this go on for ?, I removed this fish from the tank and have it in a smaller holding tank on it's own. I keep track of the water quality and for now feed it one flake a day (I havn't noticed it eating anything). So, whats the deal with these guys, what do you do to give these new little fish a chance ? |

You do just what you did. Feeding is unneccessary. She'll cary the babies
for about three and a half weeks to a month. She'll then spit them into that holding tank, (as long as it's large enough for her to feel secure) and you can start feeding her small amounts to condition her to be returned to the main tank. What temprature should I maintain the holding tank at ? And is there
anything I can add to the water that she can feed on just by breathing ? Like a liquid supliment ? "Amateur Cichlids" wrote in message .. . You do just what you did. Feeding is unneccessary. No need to add anything to the water. These fish have been holding babies
and not eating for the month they're holding for thousands of years. ;-) I keep the water at 78 degrees. AC |

How long should I leave the parent fish with the fry ?, the fry seem to be
growing very fast. I have been feeding them on powdered flake food and now some chicken egg yoke (hard boiled and dryed) Everything is looking good so far, but I am wondering what the parent will do in a few days. Oh, there was 15 fry the best I can tell. "Amateur Cichlids" wrote in message . .. No need to add anything to the water.
