Default Lead in the tank

Hi,
This might be a wierd question but does pure lead hurt the fish or water? I
am a Tinsmith and in my work I have 1/4" strips of almost pure lead as scrap
and was wondering about the safety of using them as plant weights.
Thanks to all, this group has been great help!
Dan

You should do a google groups search on this subject, you'll have days worth
of reading material. It's been discussed to death, and the general feeling
I've gotten is that lead breaks down in fresh water slowly enough that
normal water changes should keep things fine. However, I remove the weights
once the plant has anchored itself and will stay put without the help.

I use the plant weights all the time, as do may other hobbyists... as safe
as breathing... anywhere but chicago....
