Default suggestions for cheap lighting

i want to convert my 125g fish tank into a planted tank. right now, i have the
cheap flourescent tubes which came with the tank (34w) the fish store sells
high output strips for about 99$ each (need 2 for the tank size)....can i buy
these high powered bulbs at say a hardware storeand put them in my flourescent
light fixture? or is there a way to get good lighting cheaper?

finally, are there any plants that thrive on low light?
