Hi there my setup has a tank 1.5 feet in length and 10 inches top to bottom
with an undergravel filter one tube and air stone plus two inches of gravel one plant and 6 fishes I also have my ph test kit water ager water conditioning salts plus some bio clear that's what its called It is a liquid I can use to put a few drops straight into tap water and with in seconds my fish can be put straight in that water Like yesterday I was cleaning the tank so I filled a spare fish bowl with tap water added a few drops and put my fish in there while I cleaned their home So any way I know all about how the undergravel filter system works what I am trying to figure out is why the water may appear slightly cloudy I rinsed the new stones before I set up the tank also I bought a bucket to hold the water I take out and the water I will replace Plus I bought a plastic teaspoon to put my conditioning salts in and mix the tank water up slightly after all the treatments have been added I keep these things all together in my room so they are only ever used for my fish tank so based upon my setup any ideas as to why my water may appear slightly cloudy Feeding time is once a day and only as much as they can and will take in 5 minutes I thought perhaps the filter bubbles messed up the food flakes and perhaps at feeding time I should turn it off for a few minutes ? All advice and suggestions most welcome in the beginning I was going to by an axolotls Mexican walking fish but I saw them and after making an inquiry found out my tank was just a bit to small Vikki -- Never find your self arguing with an idiot People watching may not be able to tell the difference. Your tank is actually too small for 6 goldfish. I assume they are still
babies. The cloudy water is probably because you have forced the tank to re-cycle. There are "good" bacteria in the water which help to eliminate the ammonia your fish produce. When you dump all the water and clean everything, you are getting rid of these bio-bugs, as we call them. I have never used a UGF, but I do know the gravel has to be siphoned regularly with a special hose and attachment. Try taking no more than 50% of your water at a time, and you will have to do it often because of the small size of your tank. It sounds like you tank is a 10gallon, and goldfish require 10 gallons each to grow to their full potential. They produce 2x as much waste as other varieties of fish so they need lots of space. Or you'll be doing water changes continuously. You may want to invest in an ammonia tester as well. I hope this will help in some way. The cloudiness should go away once the bio-bugs have re-established themselves. Next time, only do a partial water change, 30-50% with that many fish. -- } Tammy { Support the Canakin Project with me, by linking to your favorite store from this address: http://www.geocities.com/ontario_canakin All Proceeds will be used to purchase equipment, fish, etc for the Canakin Project Watkins Business Opportunity www.tsginfo.com Enter code TD3796 Me and my fish Thank You!!
