Soil for Water Lillies

My local pond store said to put Lillies in half potting soil, half cat

Can I get something at Home Depot or Lowes that I can mix with cat litter

I don't use cat litter, but I mix "Composted Cow Manure" (available at
Frank's and Home Depot and other places) with ordinary topsoil with great
success. I suspect that Cat litter plus composted cow manure would work very
well as well. Do not use dehydrated cow manure however.

Cow manure gave my ponds the greens royally. You don't have this problem?

My house was built on a sand dune, I use it without amendments, adding
fertilizer tabs. Plants doing great. ~ jan

I suggest you take a couple shovel fulls from that big pile of dirt next to
your new pond.

He may have meant soil on the bottom and cat litter on top to hold the
dirt down. That is what i pretty much do..

I use pea gravel for all my aquatics. They do great, and the Koi aren't
attracted to them, like they are pots with clay/dirt, that they will root
around in.
The result is plants and Koi co-exist just fine.
And yes, the plants bloom and fare as well, as when they were in soil!
