Default Newbie - How many fish?

My daughter got a 5 gallon tank kit for the holidays. We have an
African Dwarf Frog and a small tetra in the tank. We'd like to get
another frog and perhaps 1-2 more fish. How many fish can safely live
in a 5 gallon tank? Would a ctfish be a good idea (to help keep the
tank clean)?

Thanks in advance for you help!

You could probably keep about 8 2-3 inch fish and maybe 12 1 inch fish,
but I definately wouldn't overload it. I would get a couple of guppies.
Also the frog isn't one of those big white frogs is he? If so he'll eat
your fish.

Oh and the catfish. Wait a couple of weeks and let the tank get built up
with algae, and get one corydoras and an otocinclus. Corydoras catfish
for the waste and the otocinclus for the algae.

in a 5 gallon tank? that has to be the most ridiculous advice I have ever
seen given on this board, even by a troll.

in a 5 gallon tank, you don't need to add any more then 2 or 3 fish in the
1-2 inch range.

and even then it will need proper husbandry to maintain water quality.

Yeah, in all the advice I've ever gotten, they said 1 inch or less per gallon.

Those rules do not apply in "pretend" tanks. You need to get a Betta if you
want long lasting long term fish.

Also, you don't ever add algae eating fish to a new tank
because......there's no algae!

Let is know when all those fish you bought die, I give them 1 month max.
