Default Rice as an aquatic plant?

Has anyone planted or used rice for an aquatic plant.........I was
thinking of planting some along the edges of my pond as a substitute
for cat tails etc, just to see how it looked and propagated.

Depending on your location, I'm guessing that you mean "wild rice," which
is indeed an aquatic grain. I got a few bundles of plants from a nursery
in western Massachusetts, and they have done nicely in the margins of an

Hopefully it will drop enough mature seeds in the water to produce more
plants next year; wild rice grows in pretty cold climates, so I should be
OK weather wise in upstate NY.

It's a pretty plant; reminds me of some of those Japanese brush and ink
drawings.
