Has anyone planted or used rice for an aquatic plant.........I was
thinking of planting some along the edges of my pond as a substitute for cat tails etc, just to see how it looked and propagated. Visit my website: http://www.frugalmachinist.com Opinions expressed are those of my wife, I had no input whatsoever. Remove "nospam" from email addy. |

Depending on your location, I'm guessing that you mean "wild rice," which is indeed an aquatic grain. I got a few bundles of plants from a nursery in western Massachusetts, and they have done nicely in the margins of an earth pond. A few pix he http://home.earthlink.net/%7Egarygar...pond/index.htm Hopefully it will drop enough mature seeds in the water to produce more plants next year; wild rice grows in pretty cold climates, so I should be OK weather wise in upstate NY. It's a pretty plant; reminds me of some of those Japanese brush and ink drawings.
