I've been lurking on this board for months, and one day I ran across a
post from a guy who had flushed one of his fish. You wouldn't believe the stupid "I'm a better reef keeper than you" because of what you did posts. I then responded with my opinion about how the response to questions, unless you were a frequent poster, to the board were arrogant and degrading. I then was acused by "brainD" of being a troll. Well sorry dip****! You are a shill for advertisers and I will never read your board again! I don't expect anyone who reads this to agree with me, but I just want to use this forum to ask, that if you didn't like the treatment you received there do not visit the site again! From the posts I've read its full of "finding Nemo" types! Brain, I didn't want to post on your board in fear of receiving the "you are a troll" snicker from your community. Thats the problem with this hobby too many arogant idiots who feel superior to someone trying to enhance their knowledge. Well I'm sorry Brain, I think you fall into this category. here is a link to the thread. Feel free to draw your own conclusions: BTW- my post was the last before nitwit closed the thread. http://reefcentral.com/forums/showth...hreadid=222270 |

Telling everyone about flushing down a fish in this hobby will cause much attention regarding of animal. People will get emotional or senisitive toward this behavior. Try post this in hunting and game or similar group. I but they will have a different attitude. Everyone or body go into aquarium have different purpose or idea regarding animal care. Some will care for the animal deeply and other just want their display to look nice to impress themself or for other. So there will be a clash between these two group. CapFusion,... |

CapFusion,
Sounds like good advice. Thanks. It just irks me. I don't like being treated like a fish killer. I try to give them a good home knowing that they have been rudely removed from their real homes, but I don't have any emotional attachment to them. I mean I eat fish and I go deep sea fishing, does this make me a bad person? lets face it there is a big difference between a fish and a dog. Anyway enough said, time to move on. Thanks. ![]() What I would like to point out is that this attitude is so hypocritical in my opinion. Not Caps view in particular, just the whole "fish killer" idea. I have seen and am sure many of you have seen the all but deplorable conditions maintained in virtually all aquarium live stock supply outlets. Now it could be argued that some places are better than others. Many may even say such things as "how could so and so be successful breeders/shop owners/importers/etc. if the conditions were so bad". I would answer that while this seems true it appears to me that the level of care aquarium livestock receives is directly proportional to the cost (or perceived value) of such livestock. The more expensive the animals they loose to ignorance the higher the costs seem to go for the rest of us. This goes all the way from the original handling to the suppliers to the LFS's. Many times it reminds me of the conditions that children would keep lightning bugs for example. In a jar with holes poked in the top and maybe a little grass. They don't live long but they are not "supposed" to. Yet they don't stop their blinking for quite some time do they? Then there is the theory (currently debated scientific BS) that fish do not have the ability to feel pain and therefor cannot possibly be mistreated. For whatever reason this was established I do not know. What I do know is that this seems to be the guise that allows aquarium livestock dealers of all types to "get away" with this sort of treatment and by default these attitudes are readily past on to the consumers. So my opinion is that if anyone is so aggravated at the situation. Or the flushing/freezing/culling of one or several fish/corals/aquarium livestock is so evil a concept. Go picket a LFS, educate consumers, get some petitions going, write some legislation, rant and rave at the commercial fishing industry, or just shut the hell up and quit picking on individuals that happen to make an honest error. I'll dismount the podium and return it to the group now. -- http://showcase.netins.net/web/reefpage/ "ciccua" wrote in message ... CapFusion, Sounds like good advice. Thanks. It just irks me. I try to give them a good home knowing that
they have been rudely removed from their real homes, but I don't have any emotional attachment to them. I mean I eat fish and I go deep sea fishing, You would be surprised how many people DO form emotional attachments to their pets, including fish. Especially if that fish had been nursed back to health and/or had been in the owner's care for many years. Watching a fish every day in your living room for years, eye to eye, feeding them, etc etc ... is a FAR cry from eating a fillet on your table or yanking some unseen fish from the ocean when it comes to emotional attachment. To be honest with you I don't think that the troll comment was directed to
you. It seems from my past experience, which is a lot, with usnet and message boards, trolls are ones that are viewed as causing problems. Usually a troll is one that will post the original message just trying to cause some type of debate and argument. For this reason alone I don't think that BrianD was directing the comment to you. I think he closed the thread just based on past posts by others in the likes of this post. He probably figured the thread would just keep going on and on, showing nothing really productive except for rude comments made to the original poster. The act of closing down the thread after you had posted could have just been a coincidence. All of this of course is just my opinion but conveying feels in the form of posts is just plain difficult to do. So you can flame me for my comments if you like but I really would not take it to heart by the comment made by BrianD. One thing to remember with RC is that if a poster has say 5000+ posts to his
name, this does not necessarily mean that they know what there talking about. pubily wrote in message ... To be honest with you I don't think that the troll comment was directed to you.
