Default MH's Without Suplimental lighting?

Hey all,
Im getting ready to setup another tank. And as with all setups
lighting is a concern. Ive had combination of all lights in the past,
MH, VHO, PC. With this tank im going to be very limited with space.
It will most likely be a 29 30 or 40. With that said, the last time i
owned a MH setup was almost 9 years ago and the 5.5K was the latest
technology they had out. Now with different bulbs, 8.8K 10K 12K 14K
20K, etc is there any one bulb that will displace the need for PC or
vho supliments? If possible without harm to the corals, i would much
rather run just the halides (up to 2 400W vertical pendants are
perfect for my particular needs)

TIA

the corals wont be harmed one bit, i like the 20,000K bulbs there nice

fish can often use a slight step in between but even room lighting is probibly enough.
also if you have 2 have one powerup say 20mins before the other and it will make up for
the difference, even if its just temporary as fish will get used to whatever you do.

20,000K bulbs are bluer, but I've been told by some that have used them that
they are only the truer color if you get the 400w version. The 175w and 250w
20,000K don't seem to please people.

10,000K will give you a crisp white look. And fwiw, I'm putting two 175w
10,000K over my 55g, and would think a single 175w would be fine over at
29-30-40g tank. 250w max.

and you're doing just the MH's no pc or flourescent?

My goal for this tank is clams and sps and a carpet. It will be my first go
at sps and everyone seems to harp on the fact that more is better(in terms
of lighting). I figured i could always raise the lights if it was too much.
But if you think that 250 would be fine then i will definatly re-consider
and even save myself some money.
I had origionally thought about cramming 5 96W PCs under the canopy(provided
i got the 30 or 40 gallon tank) but came to the conclusion that with the
extra cost and the clutter of the ballasts, i couldnt do it.
