Hi all,
Just setting up my tank again after a wipe out a few months ago. Got myself a UV this time. Is it OK to put it in line with the ext filter or will it reduce the flow rate to much, should I put the UV on its own filter? The ext filter is 1000lph on my 300l tank. Thanks for any help Les |

Les
It depends on the pump in the filter, line length etc. Why not try it and see if it works. Measure the flow you get with the UV filter in line, and check against the specs for the filter and the UV unit. If it drops significantly below the recommended flow rate, you will need a separate pump. I did the same and put one in after a big wipeout, and operated it for several months. I switched it off a few months ago, and all in the tank is fine. Mine is in line with my chiller on a small (1000 l/hr) powerhead and it is OK. Phil "Les Johnstone" wrote in message ... Thanks for any help Les If you want to kill bacteria [bad and good] that is floating about your current, you will need to set it up in a slow flow. It much more effective when it have longer contact time. I recommend not to use UV unless you really have a bad bacteria out-break. CapFusion,... |
