Hi All,
I'm posting this on behalf of a friend.... She is just about to get a 30 gall (UK) tank and is taken with the idea of getting some Convicts....She also has a Red Tail Shark that really, really needs moving from a smaller tank. She has asked me for advice on stocking (plus environment which I think I can handle at the moment but may post in future). Do you think the Convicts would mix with the RTS? Or should I be going for steering her away from the Convicts - afterall they already have the RTS that needs the move? Thanks Gill |

Convicts can be nasty, even to there own kind, I,ve had them beat up Oscars
twice there size. It might be an idea to consentrate on your RTS, and build the tank inhabitant's around him. Also i think you will find that water requirements for Convicts // RTSharks is differant, as is feeding. bassett "Gill Passman" gillspamattaylorpassmanspam.co.uk wrote in message .. . Personally, I know nothing about RTSs as I've never really wanted to keep them so don't even know what you would mix them with. I'm not actually sure exactly what is currently with it or though I do seem to remember some Mollies in there last time I visited her. IMO the RTS needs to move to the bigger tank....so I know the next question that I'll get from her is what to put with it if she can't go with the Convicts. Time for "google" methinks.... |

Yeah, you don't really want to mix convicts with anything in a 30. A
maiting pair is all that will be tolerated in that size of tank. It makes a really impressive display, though, to watch them take care of their young, and they breed like rabbits. I would take the RTS back to the LFS and get some convicts in the thirty, but thats only becuase I'm really taken with them. -- Posted via CichlidFish.com http://www.cichlidfish.com/portal/forums |

I have kept red tail sharks, they do well in a comunity tank. I would
not keep them with convicts, or other cichlids. They grow to about 6 inchs, (rare IMO), should not be kept with other red tails, unless the tank is large. I have kept them with all types of fish, such as gouramis, tiger barbs, tinfoils, mollies, plecos, guppies, neon's of all types. They can be aggressive, but IMO only to others of there own type. -- Posted via CichlidFish.com http://www.cichlidfish.com/portal/forums |

IMHO, a 30USG tank is to small for Convicts... Although they will thrive and
breed ( lets face it, a wet paper towel is all you need for a convict to breed, and they make good cheap feeder fish at that ), they need a little more.. Wait until they actually have a brood and you put your hand to move some decorations.. *lol* Regards... "Fuzzy" -DONTEMAIL wrote in message ...
