Please help my Queen Anthias !
I bought a Queen Anthias at a big sale last weekend. The prices were amazing -- but all the fish were coming in from a local warehouse in bags, and being offered on tables. When I asked how long the fish had been in the bag, I was told "oh, about 30 minutes". Where they'd been before that, I don't know. There were so many fish being put out on this sale, I'm sure no one in the store would know whether any individual/s had been eating, and (if so) what. I acclimated the fish about 2 hours, and when I released it into the tank, it went immediately into the Caulerpa forest and stayed there. Other than being frightened, it didn't appear otherwise stressed. It's a beautiful, big, fat fish. Obviously it had been eating *some*thing not too long ago to be in that condition. So it didn't come out for the next day, but the following day when I got home, it was out circulating around in the tank and seemingly doing pretty well (nobody harassing it and it not bothering anybody). The problem is, it doesn't eat. I've tried live brine shrimp, frozen "Prime Reef", frozen "Formula Two", frozen "Cyclopeeze", spirulina flakes, Omega One flakes, Salifert Energy Plus granular and frozen table shrimp (both on a veggie clip and minced). It comes out and swims around through the feeding frenzy, but doesn't seem to recognize any of these things as food. It watches the others eat with interest, but never tries any of the foods offered. I'm less concerned at this point about losing my (minimal) investment with this fish than I am worried about his loss of life due to my inability to offer him recognizable food. The brine shrimp were offered the first full day he was with us ... and he was mostly still in the Caulerpa at that point. Maybe I should try that again? Do any of you have this type of Anthias, and what do you feed them? It's been nearly a week now, and while he isn't looking thin, it seems a long time to go without even attempting a nibble at any morsels. Please help me keep him alive! I'm out of ideas ![]() =^..^= .... the problem with people these days is that they've forgotten we're really just animals. |

I had ordered one of these fish, but it died in shipping. Here is a page
with some info about food. I have some more bookmarked. I will look for them and send them soon. Sarah http://www.marinedepotlive.com/343814.html |

Anthias have a higher metabolism, and need oxygen-rich
water. They need to be fed three times a day if possible. I'd focus on live newly hatched brineshrimp, with your return pump off (if you have a sump). This keeps the food in your tank.
