The size of the koi fry, hatched in April, ranges from about 2 ½" to 8"
long. Those traded to a friend (for a liner) with a 6000 gallon pond are even larger. The butterfly koi are the smallest but most colorful. Colors keep changing with some showing a spotted pattern now. A few are almost colorless. There have been no deaths since that late April frost. The shubunkin fry have also grown, with many showing a beautiful pattern - very flashy! Some are pink showing no color at all. Others are darker than I like. They do grow a lot faster in the ponds than they do in the filtered 150 gallon pools. -- Reel McKoi.... frugal ponding since 1995...
