250W 10K MH

Just paid 125 bucks (plus 20 shipping) for a 250W 10K MH retro kit. Comes
with a 18" batwing reflector, socket, 10K bulb, 10 foot ballast to bulb
cord, 3.5 foot ballast to wall cord and a magnetic ballast in a steel case.

This is going over my 46 gallon bow front lagoon.

The question here is; Do you think buying a 20K bulb is worth all the hype?
I am putting some really colorful clams in it soon along with some gorgeous
blue and pink zoo... I want the colors to really "pop" and to get a good
shimmer.

Well, that is what I'm told, but I've not seen a tank yet that I like with
20,000K bulbs. Taking pictures in that blue lighting is tricky too.

I guess it all comes down to color preference. I have a 20K 400W XM bulb
with 96W actinic 03 PC supplement over my 65G reef and I prefer the way it
looks to the 10K/actinic combo I had before (I do like the blue coloration).
I think it is a matter of preference but I also think my coralline algae has
taken off under the 20K light.

I used to run sunburst 12,000k I switched to 20,000k and umm im 50/50 I like the look, but
the good bulbs are $$$$ and the soso bulbs are $$$ and the soso bulbs the blue was gone in
2 months, that made those $$$ bulbs way $$$$$$$ plus even the good 20,000k bulbs dont last
quite as long as a 12,000k sunburst. but while there good the light is SWEEEEET, colors
stand out more, and the light shimmer ?pattern?(fill in your fav word) is more
pronounced.

my 180g has only 20kk lighting and I really like it. others think its to
blue but its personal preference. the corals do really stand out under it
much better then the 10kk's.

like Marc said the pic taking can be tricky but a little tweaking with the
white balance will solve that problem.

So far is okay... I paid for it immediately, wednesday night and it was
shipped out friday... I should have it monday / tuesday. Shipping was 20
buck.

Well here it is, Tuesday night and no light. I contacted the seller and he
says it was shipped TONIGHT!!! Man am I ****ed!!!

This guy took payment wednesday, said he'd get right on shipping it. Okay
fine sounds good.

Friday rolls around and he hasnt given me any shipping info. Hmmmm.... I
contact him and he assures me he shipped it earlier friday. Okay this is
cool I can understand this... Just getting hard to manage...

Tonight, no light (...

I contact him and he has this cavaleer attitude about the whole thing...
Tells me that he just shipped it and it will be here tomorrow.

I made him give me the tracking number and UPS does have "some" shipment
under that # to my town. BUT!!! It is shipped UPS ground. No freaking way
it's getting here tomorrow, as promised.

If you plan on buying from this guy, so far just be careful of him lying and
make sure you get a tracking number.

Will keep you posted.
