I have a 12g JBJ Nano Cube and added a 10lb bag of LS (I think it was CaribSea,
not sure since I'm at work, I can find out later if needed). Since the tank has now been cycling for a week, it has given me a chance to read more. I've found that some people recommend 3-4 inches of sand substrate on the bottom, right now I have maybe an inch, less in shallow spots. My question is, should I add another 10lb? It seems like it would push the depth to about 2-3 inches. Also, is it ok to add sand this late into cycle? Thanks for you guidance, ~John |

Are there any negatives to adding more depth to my sand? With the inch of sand
present, it barely passes the bottom black edge of tank. I wouldn't mind if it went up another half inch so I could see a sand border on the glass. It's more of an asthetic thing to me so I'm not too concerned. Thanks for your reply, John PS. I've found reefcentral and nano-reef, this crowd seems a little tamer/organzied with their experimentations though. |

Yes, you can safely add another .5" to 1" of sand. I would pour it in via a PVC
pipe, or lower it in in a ziplock baggie to avoid a sand storm. Then stir it very gently with your fingertips, basically raking the sand to mix it and get your critters up to the surface rather than smothering them with more sand.
