Default betta filter bubble nest

To expand on another conversation,
i thought i would share this, I have different filters in each betta tank,
the ones who have a hob filter i noticed have not been making bubble nests
(there is not to strong of a current) but i decided to see how they would do
with the filters that are a square box half cotton / half carbon, you hook
an air tube to it, its been a week, i also put a thing on the air tube to
control the flow, and have it a little slower for when they are eating and
at night, but with in a few days they were back to blowing bubble nests
again, and seem a lot happier, i got them at petsmart they were 2 for 5.99$
now i still do 2 water changes a week, i only did 1 a week with the HOB, but
i have not noticed that the water condition is any better or worse, its
still pretty clean. I also used a sponge flter in one but i replaced it with
the box thing because it took up less room.

I'm with you. That's why I'm making small sponge filters for my bettas.
Bettas seem to like gentle water movement and I like the slow,
graceful drape of their fins in still or gently moving water.

You don't usually need to change water any more with box filters than
HOB once they've cycled. If I'm planning on using a box filter as the
main filter for a tank, I set it up with a sponge instead of floss. You
can rinse the sponge and keep the bio-bugs instead of throwing them away
with the carbon and floss. If you like the carbon and floss, never
change both at the same time. You can usually gently rinse the old
floss to unclog it when you need to change the carbon.
