I live in Cincinnati. Local Water 8.4ph 14gh 4kh aged from the tap.
I have two tanks that seem to be doing fine. ] Tank 1 is 38 gal 7.3ph 3kh. It is planted, contains aged drift wood. Filtered with two whisper power filters and a UGF powered by two powerheads. Stocked with a 9" black ghost, 9" pleco, and two 3" gouramis. I've had these fish about three or four years. Tank2 is 29 gal 7.4ph 3 kh. It is planted, contains less aged drift wood. Filtered with a whisper power filter and a large sponge with powerhead. Stocked originally with three black mollies which have turned into about 30 mollies and population rapidly rising! For the past couple of months, I've been doing approx 20% water changes twice per week. Previously, I'd been worried about the high PH of the tap water so did fewer water changes. But I've read that fresh water is better than perfect water. And the fish seem to love the water changes. What do you think of adding four Angel fish to Tank 1? The current Tank 1 inhabitants, while very cool fish, are all shy or nocturnal. I'd like some fish that would be easily seen in the day. However, I'm concerned that in this relatively small space the fish would be crowded by the time everyone keeps growing. If Angels aren't a good choice, what else? I once tried tetras with a black ghost based on a books statement about the ghost being so peaceful. Ha ! Tetras came up dead or missing eye balls. |

Keep in mind Angels get LARGE after a few years and when paired off - aggressive. I'm one of those people who went through the aggressive fish stage and wont keep them any more. Anything that would take a fishes eye out I would bring back to the store. Your post may not be showing up on everyone's newsreader for some reason. -- Koi-Lo.... frugal ponding since 1995... Leave well enough alone. -- Put the word aquaria in the subject to reply. Did you read the FAQ? http://faq.thekrib.com That's kind of what I thought. Which brings me to another idea. I've been thinking of getting a 75 or 90 gal tank and then putting the black ghost and pl*co in that with four Angels. Even this idea gives me some concern. I have room for two decent sized hiding places in the 38 gal. The ghost and the pl*co are both territorial and fight over the best hiding place. The "peaceful" ghost always wins those fights. Fortunately, they haven't seemed to hurt each other. I'm hoping that with a larger aquarium and a few more hiding places everyone could just get along. On the other hand it might turn into a gang fight with the addition of the Angels once they mature. I've had aquariums on and off for years. But, this is the first time I've had what I consider large fish...mainly because I've gotten better at keeping them and they've had a chance to get large. Both the pl*co and the ghost started out at about 2-3" in a 20 gal. Fish behaviour really changes as they mature! |

Tetras came up dead or missing eye balls. my experience with angels and (dwarf) gouramis was that they did not mix well because of the semi-aggressive and territorial behavior both can exhibit. i've had other problems with the gouramis as well with them becoming overly reclusive when not comfortable with their surroundings or other fish. from the sound of things and the level of your water changes i think tank could support four angels untill they grow to full adult size and pair off, in which case i'd recommend keeping just the mated pair. my suggestion would be to move the gouramis over with the mollies to help,... umm... *controll* their population. ;-) that would free up adding the angels to your other tank w/o conflicts arrising. i'm not sure how well the mollies and goirmies would mix however. HTH. |

That's a good question. The ghost doesn't bother the gouramis unless
they try to get in his hiding place. This is probably why the gouramis are so shy...they don't really have place of their own and I don't have room for more than two hiding places in the 38 gal (the pl*co takes the other hiding place). I think the situation would be similar with the Angels. If they tried to mess with the ghost I think it would be bad news for the Angels. As I mentioned in another post, I'm thinking about getting a 75 or 90 gal and trying the set up in there along with the addition of more hiding places. |

(US) and i am loving it! ;-) (i've become a fish addict and it's all N*tM*x's fault). |
