Hello to everybody. Just a quick question to ask about 'floating
pellets' for goldfish. Does this not go against everything I have ever read about feeding goldfish? Would this not encourage swim bladder problems? I went to my local Petco and they were the only pellets I could find. Very confused. Going on Vacation soon for 2 weeks and was going to get an automatic feeder for the 55g. Problem there is my Ryukin is suffering from what I guess is constipation as she floats on and off. I starve one day a week and have cut feeding down. So I thought that maybe I'll just get my friend to come over a few times during my vacation and give them a measured amount. The problem I now have is my single fry. He will be about 7-9 weeks old by then so think that he might be a bit young for infrequent feeding. Was also worried about his water changes. The 55g will be done before we go away and my friend is going to take a couple of gallons off and add some aged water in there. The Fluval is so good that I have faith it will be ok for the 2 weeks. The little 10g with the fry in will have a filter working by then but as he is so small I am worried about her scooping him up. Feel like a new mom. I suppose 5 weeks from now he is going to be a whole lot bigger so am probably worrying prematurely. Any help with this neuroticism greatly recieved Mellie |

I do pea's either the day before or the day I am doing water changes, just to be safe as not to file the tank to much. On the other hand before having that info I used to always feed my goldfish flakes and never had a problem. The only problem with the sinking food is if they dont eat it all and it rots in the gravel and they then eat it they can get sick, I have never seen mine miss or leave a piece however they are little piggy's. As far as going away and the baby, I would do the tank the day before leaving, maybe if he is big enough by then it wont be a problem, make sure she takes the water out with something she can inspect after before dumping the water out. what are you feeding the little guy now, maybe show her how you do it. I cant remember how you have it set up filter and stuff Nik |

Hi, thanks Nikki. I haven't put a filter in yet as I only got it last
week and haven't had the time to test it yet. I've been doing 10% water changes every 2-3 days but have been doing water tests and it is all good. The little bugger is getting bigger by the day. So cute. I have an air stone in there and a small undergravel filter that covers 1/3 of the tank so there is some filteration. I'm still crushing flake food for him. Was going to ask when and what I can change it to something else. I have some freeze dried dapnia that is very small so was wandering if he could have that occasionally? I'm doing ok with the bigger goldfish but I'm scared to death of the little one :-) Mellie |

i cant think of any reason the dapnia would be a problem, but not positive
also maybe the yellow from a cooked egg. Nik "Mellie101" wrote in message oups.com... Hi, thanks Nikki. The more variety you give him the faster he'll grow. I'm doing ok with the bigger goldfish but I'm scared to death of the little one :-) Mellie -- Koi-Lo.... frugal ponding since 1995... I think most of us learn how much to feed per feeding and so don't have rotting food on the bottom. They will usually scour the gravel for every last dropped morsel at feeding time. I have never seen mine miss or leave a piece however they are little piggy's. Problem there is my Ryukin is suffering from what I guess is constipation as she floats on and off. If it's a deformed swim-bladder constipation has nothing to do with it. You can start giving them orange sliced thinly. Remove uneaten portion after several hours. This has a lot of fiber. They may also enjoy nibbling cukes and zucchinis. I starve one day a week and have cut feeding down. So I thought that maybe I'll just get my friend to come over a few times during my vacation and give them a measured amount. Yes, measure it before hand and HIDE the food containers. People tend to feel sorry for your fish and give them only "a bit more" which usually is 100 times too much.
