Default Going from Tropical (freshwater) to Marine... What should I know?

I'd like to make the leap to marine. I've purchased "The New Marine
Aquarium: Step-By-Step Setup & Stocking Guide" and "The New Marine
Aquarium: Step-By-Step Setup & Stocking Guide" but they have not yet
arrived.

Sorry for the stupid newbie question, but I'm wondering what equipment
can be used for both and what cannot? Will filteration / airation /
heating devices that I've been using with tropical set ups function in
a marine environment?
