Default vacation feeding - fish and frog

Hi, I read many older posts which suggest that not giving food for 2
weeks will not harm fish when on vacation. But what about a dwarf frog?
the other denizens in the tank are a couple of guppies, 3 scissors, 2
glass cats, 1 cat fish, 1 algea eater.

I would never advise going that long for frogs or fish. Many species
can certainly die without food for 2 weeks. I can't speak for all and I
certainly can't say that I've tried it but even if they survived I
would think their immune systems would be critically compromised. I
doubt the frog would last at all. My personal limit is 4 days.
Anything longer then that and I train a friend or hire a pro.

I can't speak for the frog but this isn't a good idea in my opinion. Two
week weeks without food is long time for some fish. Isn't there anyone who
can come in every few days and feed them? What about evaporation or a stuck
heater? Also what if the filter fails? This happened to my brother and his
wife and just about everything was dead when they got back. They were gone
for only a week. They thought it probably failed shortly after they left.

I imagine once one fish died the water would foul pretty quickly and
badness would occur at an accelerated rate.

That's probably what happened. One or two of the lager cichlids died and
really fouled the water, killing the rest of the fish. They were
understandably very upset. Since they travel so much they didn't replace
them. They also didn't replace the ancient old cat when she passed away,
now that Mom is not available to watch pets for them.

Small fish (guppys and tetra) need food every 3 days to stay charging
things like cichlids and big goldys can go a month
not a good idea
but when fish get bounced around the world they somethimes go longer than
that!!
water is still top priority not food
shame ya can't seal the top and leave a tray of maggots floating
sure to provide a nice hatching feast
w000t
some fish shops will hire you out a fish feeder

I heard you can hire people to do this while on Vacation. I know little
about these services. I do know with all the valuables they own they
wouldn't allow strangers into their home while they were away. I'm lucky
in that my step-daughter comes over every other day when we travel. She
takes care of the dogs and the fish plus brings in the mail. My brother and
his wife aren't so fortunate.
