Default Goldfish keep dying

I have a 55 gallon / 220 L freshwater tank with 12 goldfish in it (mixture
of blackmores, shubunkins and comets). Recently they started dying at the
rate of 1 per week, so we end up replacing 4 a month. The oldest are 2 years
old.

We have had the water checked for everything (nitrates, nitrites, pH, etc)
at the fish shop and everything is fine. We tried doing a salt bath, monitor
pH daily and have ended up doing fairly frequent 25% water changes. It's
been pretty hot lately but water temp is OK (28 deg C or less).

The fish look fine (scales OK, no bloating, no weird colouring) other than
every few days one of them starts looking depressed, its tail fins hang down
and it starts living on the bottom of the tank. Within about 4 days it's
dead.

What could be going wrong? This was an established tank and then the fish
suddenly started dropping like flies...

12 goldfish of that age in a 55 is much to much. Usually when they
clamp their fins and set onthe bottom etc its a sign of stress or
bacterial infection, which may or may not have other visuals to
iindicate it as well. Reduce the numbers.

Your tank is horribly overcrowded. Each goldfish needs at least 10 gallons
to remian healthy. I have two 55g tanks and keep no more than 5 or 6
goldfish in each tank unless they're still small and young. By the time a
year passes there are no more than 5 per tank.

Try www.koivet.com . He's a licensed veterinarian.... also Google
goldfish+disease etc. Good luck.

Go to a decent full time forum like koishack.com where they have folks
that know what they are talking about with koi and goldies..not some
Bozo like Zebulon the troll putting out plagarized or erroneous info.
I do believe Dr. Solo and Gill Passman answered your question
correctly though. As you can see CArol adlibs a bunch.....

http://koishack.com

Koivet forum is old hat and slowly fading away just like USENETs
groups as most foks woth a darn left koivet 2 or more years ago...ONly
idiots like Carol aka Zebulon hang out there.

Anyone can see you need professional help desperately Roy Tristan Hauer, as
I am apparently destroying your life by merely existing. Prozac, maybe
Thorazine can help you get over your obsession with me and professional
counseling can help you get over using personal attacks, fantasies and
slander as an ego builder and attention getter. Talk to your Dr at the VA
hospital about the proper medications to help you control yourself. You can
live a normal life free of hate, lies, feelings of inferiority and
obsessions but you must make an effort to help yourself. Don't you want to
feel good about yourself again? Your Dr at the VA can help you.

Net stalking and slandering old grandmothers and disabled veterans wont make
you the man you want to be in the eyes of the world.
